The American author and historian Margaret Leech was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize twice rebuilding and for "Reveille in Washington" in 1942 and then also for "In the Days of McKinley" in 1960. Both books were forgotten but the New York Review of Books has commissioned push up "Reveille in Washington" in a new edition. This particular book was a great inspiration for David McCullough - he supposedly said that after reading "Reveille in Washington," he decided to devote himself to the subject of history. As most technical books it's nothing to read in a couple of hours- it is concentrated body of text and many details. You do not want to miss anything weinkühlschrank important so you have to be concentrated. This year is probably the reading of this masterpiece (for, one might say that is) to be extra current. It is 150 years since the Civil War raged (1861-65) and the after-effects of all the devastation live with today. This week's TLS (Times Literary Supplement) has as main heading "How Exactly Should we celebrate our Civil War?" Is not that something to celebrate but well to remember.
